The Department of IT Services has rolled out a few changes to email filtering in the last few weeks. These changes focus on improving anti-phishing measures by quarantining potential phishing emails before they reach your inbox. Since this was implemented, 5 of 7 phishing attacks were successfully blocked, with the filter being modified after the 2 attacks that were unaffected.
This filter works by looking for common phrases in phishing emails and running the message through a few Microsoft-powered systems to analyze the legitimacy of the message. If the message does not pass, it is quarantined indefinitely and the IT Services department is notified. If it passes all checks, the message will be delivered to your inbox.
Thus far we have not had any false positives, and we will continue to monitor and adjust the filter as needed.
