When creating your internal presence on your SHU site, you may be wondering – what is the difference between a post and a page? Both posts and pages have the same editing tools, and roughly the same settings. So which one should you choose?

Page Overview

Think of pages as the foundation of your site. You will want to use pages as permanent locations on your site, that are not affected or filtered out by date. an About page, a Contact page, and a Home page are great examples of this. You may also have a Blog-specific page which is used to display your site’s posts! You can go back and edit page content at any time of course, so you will not need to worry about making it perfect to begin with.

Post Overview

PostsĀ are time-sensitive entries listed in reverse chronological order on your internal site. You should think of these like articles, updates, or some other form of temporary piece of information. Posts are associated with the date they are published, and will display this date on its webpage. Posts are great if you need to share event information, important reminders, or would need to display information that does not stick around in a permanent location.

For example, the Financial aid office posts important dates and information related to their office. These posts contain good information that may change over time, especially important dates, so it is good to have these in post format versus a permanent page. Another example is the Common Dialogue Day website – having a post for every years presentations allows for the community to re-visit old posts and information instead of visiting a static page that has the older information removed every year.

CampusPress Feature: Network Posts Feed

A unique feature in the CampusPress network of sites is a network posts feed. This feed displays posts published from any site on the SHU CampusPress network. It allows for sorting by recent posts, featured posts, and more.

This feed can be viewed from the admin dashboard once you have signed in to your account. You can sign in by clicking the “Log In” text in the top-left of the page.
