The Ethnic and Gender Studies Institute has sponsored many presentations and keynote speakers in the past during out scholarship symposium hosted annually. The following are some of the past presentations and speakers that we’ve held in the past.

Jowana Burgan presented the talk “Women in Engineering”; Jowana is an engineering student and founder of The Girls Mechanic Team, September 2020.

Painting Campus Purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October 2019: At four SHU home athletic events, the athletes warmed up in purple wristbands and we gave away purple wristbands and hair scrunchies to students.  A representative from the Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence SafeHouse shared statistics and information about Domestic Violence and Dating Violence during halftime and at an information table. 

Pastor Junia Joplin presented a talk entitled “The Three Graces of Transition,” November 2020.

Simon Fraser University Associate Professor of Philosophy Dr. Holly Anderson presented a talk entitled “Sports Team Names and Social Justice: Who Gets a Say?”  October 2020.

Sponsored two screenings of the film RBG, on Ruth Bader Ginsburg, October 2018.
