CONGRATULATIONS!

Karley Kane-Maystead joined the Southwest Michigan Disability Network on February 8, 2021 and is working in the Kalamazoo office as an Independent Living Specialist. She recently graduated from Siena Heights with a bachelor’s degree in Community and Human Services. Karley completed a practicum with the Disability Network during her last semester and during that time she discovered a passion for working in the Independent Living field.

Many of our students receive job offers as a result of their practicum experiences in the capstone course (CSV 495). Three of our students recently accepted job offers in Battle Creek and Benton Harbor.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

Students work on a personalized project which contributes to the mission/goals/needs of the agency where they complete their practicum. For example, students use their creativity and communication skills to develop client recruitment materials and outreach methods. Students organize fundraisers to benefit an agency in need of financial resources. Recently, one student was able to pilot cutting-edge substance abuse/mental health symptom tracking software in Kalamazoo. We are so proud of our students and the hard work they put into their education and into helping their communities.
