Accessibility is a major part of the internet today. Over the last decade, great strides have been made to further accessibility standards on the web. Many of these standards are now required by law to be present on websites, to better serve those who may have difficulty navigating or viewing websites on their own. CampusPress provides user education, plugins, site reviews, and compliance mitigation to ensure that your websites are accessible to all visitors.
The Accessibility-First Theme
CampusPress has provided SHU with a beautiful and modern theme that is accessibility-friendly and responsive to all screen sizes. This theme is automatically applied to all internal websites once they are created, and is to be kept active when designing your website. This theme ensures that our internal websites are accessible to all members of the SHU community.
The theme can be customized to your needs as well. Colors, fonts, and more can be changed, with the theme letting you know if there is an accessibility problem. For example, if you have a red background with pink text, you’ll be alerted of an accessibility/readability problem that needs to be changed.

The Accessible Content Plugin
CampusPress offers a custom plugin – the Accessible Content plugin. This plugin will check pages and posts for accessibility issues, such as nondescript links, missing alt-text on images, and more. Here’s how it works – when a page or post is updated, we force editors to preview the content before it can be published. In the preview, you’ll see potential accessibility issues highlighted with helpful text on how it can be improved. Suggestions and issues raised by this plugin are very important to review, as it gathers common errors and problems your site may have. Verifying your site meets accessibility standards is a very important thing.
