Siena Heights University to Celebrate Centennial During 2019-21 Academic Year
Siena Heights University announced that it will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding during the 2019-20 academic year.
Originally founded as St. Joseph College by the Adrian Dominican Sisters in 1919, it was renamed Siena Heights College in 1939 and finally Siena Heights University in 1998.
According to SHU President Sister Peg Albert, OP, PhD, the University is gearing up to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime event in its history.
“We have established a committee that has already begun planning for the anniversary year,” President Albert said. “There are many events and activities in the planning, and we want to include the entire Siena community, as well as the community at-large.”
Some of the activities being discussed include a statewide Olympic-style torch relay event in August 2019 to begin the anniversary year, as well as a “Kickoff Week” and special Homecoming Weekend celebration. A unique “100 Events for the 100th” concept is also in the planning stages.
The Centennial Committee recently unveiled the official 100th anniversary logo that will be used exclusively throughout the academic year.
